Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) is more commonly known as “complex regional pain syndrome.” In most cases, it affects the extremities (hands, arms, feet, and legs) with onset symptoms of severe burning sensations. RSD is unique because of its effects on multiple areas of the body at the same time.

To this day, no definitive studies showcase the cause of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. However, research suggests that the disorder focuses on the sympathetic nervous system. Patients who experience RSD have most likely dealt with an injury, heart disease, surgery, degenerative arthritis, and even a stroke.
